How cool would it be to never have to visit a gas station, to get all the juice you need to go from a power socket, not a pump? What was once the exclusive realm of sci-fi has become a mainstream reality and not a moment too soon, given the volatile prices at the pump and increasing environmental issues. All-electric cars are, in fact, emerging as a viable alternative to gas guzzlers. These electro-marvels of engineering silently zip along while emitting zero toxic fumes, making you the hippest cat on the road. As the 3LUXE review team discovered during research to bring you our three “Best Of” electric car picks, it’s possible to go all-electric and still get around town in style and comfort.

Tesla Roadster electric car top
If you love neck-snapping torque right off the line, we’ve got your car, and it doesn’t run on premium gas. In fact, it doesn’t run on gas at all, it’s the Tesla Roadster electric car. Unlike a gas-powered engine, this roadster’s peak torque begins at zero rpm and stays there beyond 13,000 rpm and up to 130 mph. The... FULL REVIEW

There’s a great Newsweek story about the Tesla in this week’s issue. It’s titled “An Electric Dream” and covers Tesla’s drive to be the to be the ultimate green car. It’s a comprehensive look at the company, their efforts to get their first car out the door (and additional more affordable models down the road code-named White Star and Blue Star), and profiles of the two founders – Martin Eberhard and Elon Musk. Anyone considering buying a Tesla should definitely read this article as it’s basically the first one I’ve seen that wasn’t just a lovefest about the possibilities of this electric sport car. Before you throw down your $50,000 deposit for the Tesla, it couldn’t hurt to get a little fair balance, which Newsweek writer Keith Naughton certainly delivers.
