The Art of Shaving Travel Kit Review

The Art of Shaving Travel Kit brush

The Art of Shaving Travel Kit
This next “Best Of” started in the kitchen of husband and wife team Eric Malka and Myriam Zaoui. Myriam had been experimenting with essential oils and aromatherapy and one day tested out a pre-shave oil on Eric, her entrepreneur husband. Jump-cut to a close-up of Eric’s razor gliding easily over his beard, and soon after Myriam and Eric sold their car for $12,000 and opened a store in Manhattan called The Art of Shaving. Customers adored their four-step shave system: Prepare, with pre-shave oil to soften the beard and skin; Lather Up, using a glycerin-based shaving cream with a real badger hair shave brush; Shave, using a beautifully-designed razor that features Gillette Mach3 blades; and Moisturize, with a soothing after-shave gel or balm. Can’t remember all that? No matter, you can still experience the cleanest, closest shave around if you pick up The Art of Shaving’s Travel Kit with Razor. Depending on your skin type, each kit features a pre-shave essential oil (lemon, lavender, sandalwood or unscented) with complementary-scented shave cream, a badger hair shave brush and after-shave balm. Essentially everything you need to make your face a work of art.

I must say: This whole idea of making shaving your face an "art" is totally ridiculous. Maybe if you are rich or retired and don't have to work, you'll have time to make shaving a 45 minute process every day. And honestly, after spending $55 on the badger hair brush, and another $25 on the shaving cream, I rate the shave at 5/10.

I get better results with a 95 cent can of barborasol and a $10 mach 3 razor. Not to mention while saving 40 minutes of time.
Another point, the badger hair brushes make your face smell like a WET BADGER. Its a mix between old men and moth balls. Kind of gross. So save yourself alot of time and money. Go with the shaving kit from wal mart. You aren't missing anything.

I use a badger brush and soap on a daily basis and couldn't disagree more with Norzoloco's assessment of the shave. I'll be the first to admit the first couple shaves were rough as my skin adjusted to the new routine, but now my shaves are closer and cleaner. Shaving with a brush is as fast as lathering up with a 99 cent can of Barbasol and better for the environment (nothing to throw away). A huge benefit for those who travel, you can stow it in your carry-on. As far as smelling like a wet badger? Try a different soap, and you don't have to spend a ton, pick some up at Wal-Mart, it will be right next to the Barbasol.

Looking at the kit, I wonder how the brush dries out? If I don't shake out and hang my badger brush it'll start to smell. Boiling your brush should fix the smell, but you do need to let it air once you're done shaving.
