Baker Furniture Writing Desk
If you long for the days of old, before TV, radio and the Internet, when the word written by quill and ink ruled the communications world, than this may be just the desk for you. The Baker Writing Desk is an exact replica of an English desk, circa 1812. In fact, the original piece upon which this is modeled was owned by Sir Humphrey Wakefield, Bt., and now sits at a castle in Northumberland, England. This hand-built desk is made of mahogany solids and veneers with a fine leather top. The rectangular desk with rounded ends is reeded and cross-banded and inset with a gilt-tooled leather panel. The curved and reeded legs terminate in handsome brass feet and casters. Now before you get too excited about this "Best Of" honoree, know that the price tag is $12,348. Back in 1812 that would have darn near bought the whole castle, today it just gets you a desk, but a mighty fine one at that. If you buy it, be sure to write us and let us know what you think.
After thorough independent research, we selected the Baker Furniture Writing Desk as a 3LUXE "Best Of", to see our other two Desk selections visit our Desk Overview.
