In nineteenth century Victorian England, the constraining corset was a symbol of the repressive times. Of course, we now know that beneath the severe social conventions, a smoldering fervor for fanciful underthings blossomed, leaving us in the 21st century to reap the benefits, with many fine examples of corsetry and other “boudoir” wear available today from British lingerie-makers Eternal Spirits. Head designer Susi Henson creates luxurious corsets using traditional techniques with steel boning and eyelets and traditional back lacing and also designs charming knickers, garters, gloves and specialty bridal accessories. This “Best of” has become wildly popular with the revival of burlesque performances and offers more than just hand-crafted corsets – satin side-tie strip tease panties are also a perennial favorite. And the latest design collection, Sundae Matinee, is a colors made in sumptuous dupioni and chiffon silks and decorated with Swarovski crystals and dreamy satin ribbon trims.
