Arco Lamp by Castiglioni
Amazingly, this sensational lighting fixture actually was created to answer a quandary. If you need a ceiling lamp but don’t want to drill a hole in the ceiling, then you understand the motivation behind the design of the Arco Lamp. Legendary Italian designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni solved this familiar problem in 1962. The Arco lamp was a design shooting star then, and it remains so today. There’s one in NYC’s Museum of Modern Art, for example, and there should be one in your living room. How often does a lamp have this good a story? This “Best Of” is all about pure and simple: the base is marble and the adjustable arc is gleaming stainless steel. Inspired by a street lamp, it shines a pool of warm light that reaches eight feet. Oh, yes, this is great for your dining area as well. These very practical Castiglionis made sure the arch would reach to the middle of a dining table.
