Petzl Tikka XP
An innovator in the use of LED technology, French company Petzl has created in its Tikka XP a headlamp that is amazingly light (three ounces) and that can switch between spot and spread beams with a simple slide of the light-dispensing filter. When you're fumbling around in the back of the tent in search of another piece of gear, the focused beam is what you need. However, when you're trail running at dusk, the broad beam will help ensure your safety. Another cool feature of this "Best Of" pick is that you can opt for a boost mode that will give you 50% more light for 20 seconds. This extra surge can sure come in handy when you're trying to determine if the place you've chosen to relieve yourself is in a poison ivy patch or if the little bright eyes you see behind the tree belong to a deer or a bear.
From independent research, we selected the Petzl Tikka XP as a 3LUXE "Best Of". To see our other two Headlamp selections visit our Headlamp Overview.
