View Cube
The Cube modular cabinet system is such a stunning idea, you could spend forever just choosing which elements you want and deciding in which direction drawers or slide-out shelves should open. But you needn’t decide for good, because you can change them around—very helpful if you plan to acquire new electronics of greater or smaller dimensions. Moreover, this “Best Of” is made for mobility, so if you move, it will go where you go—and fit your new digs. If your room is long and skinny, this is the best room divider we’ve ever encountered. If your space is small, you can stack your Cubes and use otherwise-wasted vertical real estate. Lay Cubes single file, and they even serve as seating. Configure your Cubes asymmetrically or, when you’re feeling more formal, symmetrically. Go monotone—either dark or light—or create drama via bold contrast. Manufactured in Italy, the Cube is the brainchild of German überdesigner Werner Aisslinger, whose edgy work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan, and Vitra Design Museum. Configuring Cubes is good exercise for your imagination. Bravo.
