In the 19th Century when amateur photographer Arvid Viktor began a photographic division within his father's trading company, he allegedly said, "I certainly don’t think that that we will earn much money on this, but at least it will allow us to take pictures for free." He couldn't have been more wrong. Thanks to a partnership with George Eastman, founder of Kodak, Hasselblad became an early market leader in cameras. Their impeccable reputation continues to this day. Hasselblad's cameras have been NASA's camera of choice. Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr., snapped photos of earth from the surface of the moon with a Hasselblad. The H3D-39 Digital SLR is an exceptional camera. It's the world's first 48mm, full-frame, large-sensor, medium-format digital SLR. The large pixels (5412 x 7212) in the H system mean less noise and a better dynamic range. A custom Hasselblad raw file format (3FR) reduces the required storage by some 33%. It wasn't cheap to fly to the moon, and neither was the camera NASA sent along. - Custom Hasselblad raw file format called 3F RAW (3FR). The file format includes lossless image compression, which reduces the required storage space by 33%.
- The specifications of the specially designed HC/HCD lenses exceed the demands made by digital capture. The central lens shutters of the lenses add flexibility by allowing flash to be employed at shutter speeds up to 1/800s. Thanks to the large format, the depth of field range is considerably shallower making it much easier to create a perfect interplay between sharpness and blur. The H3D design has also made possible the launch of a completely new 28mm lens, designed and optimized solely for digital image capture. Image quality is lifted to a level, yet unseen in digital photography, including digital correction for color aberration and distortion (DAC).
