This magnificent Monterey County chardonnay is produced by a discerning family-run operation whose original claim to fame is the Robert Talbott luxury clothing line. As Robert and wife Audrey traveled to Europe during material buying trips, they became interested in producing wines in the Old World tradition. Robert and son Robb founded their vineyard in 1982 and began producing wines in the painstaking, small lot, traditional Burgundian approach of barrel fermentation, minimal or no filtering and fining and very gentle handling. Fruit for all of Talbott’s wines are grown exclusively in their own vineyards, and only the choicest fruit is used. These strict standards of excellence are immediately evident in the marvelous ’02 Cuvée Audrey Chardonnay, a barrel selection bottled Grand Cru style. Layered with delicious lemon and oak, this classy chardonnay was an “Editor’s Choice” selection by Wine Enthusiast magazine.
