In many ways, this "Best Of" pick was chosen for us. The MSR XGK camp stove has been wildly popular among occasional backpackers and serious mountain climbers for 30 some years. This MSR XGK EX is an upgrade to that tried-and-tested model. It's one versatile stove in that it burns more liquid fuels than any other camp stove. So if you're in a place where Coleman fuel or something similar isn't readily available, you can burn unleaded gas or even diesel. A new flexible fuel line helps the EX pack even smaller than its predecessor. It can store away in a 1.5 liter MSR pot. Yet it puts out more heat than a super model: boiling a liter of water in 2.8 minutes. That makes it perfect for those campers, like many of us here at 3LUXE, who can't get started without a cup of joe in the morning. And the new, retractable legs and pot supports provide even greater stability. That's a fine thing, because no one wants to see his or her dinner on the cold ground.
