Asbach Connoisseur Glass
If you crave a true brandy tasting experience, this next “Best Of’s” story lets you travel back to 1895 when German cellar master Hugo Asbach made a surprising discovery that changed the way brandy was created and enjoyed. After one of his frequent trips to the cellar to check on the quality of the distillate, Asbach put another snifter over the glass he was tasting from in order to preserve the bouquet. Upon returning, Asbach swilled his covered tasting glass and then inhaled the fragrance from its cover, which released what brandy drinkers call “the spirit of the wine.” From then on, Asbach used this method to preserve the treasured aromas of the brandy during the distilling process and eventually, to celebrate the company’s 110th anniversary, the Asbach Connoisseur Glass was created and released to the public for the first time. A traditional glass brandy balloon with a lovely pendant-topped cover is designed to preserve the “spirit of the wine” for the discerning brandy enthusiast.
